Virginia homeschool requirements
Virginia requires a Notice of Intent to the division superintendent by August 15 and evidence of the child's academic progress by August 1 of the following year.

What the Virginia process looks like
1.Establish the program
File Notice of Intent (by Aug 15)
Notify the division superintendent of intent to provide home instruction, with a list of subjects, by August 15 (§22.1-254.1).
Withdraw from prior school (if applicable)
Withdraw the child from any current school.
2.During the year
Provide home instruction
Teach the child; Virginia does not mandate a specific subject list or hours under the home-instruction statute, but progress must be demonstrable.
3.End of year
Provide evidence of progress (by Aug 1)
Submit standardized test results (composite score at or above the 4th stanine) or an evaluation letter showing adequate progress, by August 1 of the following year.
