What the Pennsylvania process looks like

1.Establish the Program

  • File notarized affidavit

Submit the notarized home-education affidavit to the local school district superintendent before instruction begins.

  • Submit educational objectives

Provide the required outline of proposed educational objectives by subject area with the affidavit.

2.During the Year

  • Maintain the portfolio

Keep a log of instruction, samples of work, and required standardized test results (grades 3, 5, and 8).

3.End of Year

  • Obtain the annual evaluation

Have a qualified evaluator review the portfolio and issue the written evaluation/certification of progress.

  • Submit portfolio + evaluation

File the evaluator certification (and portfolio if requested) with the school district.
