What the Ohio process looks like
1.Establish the program
File the annual notification
Send the home-education notification to the resident district superintendent by August 30 (or within 24 hours of starting midyear), giving the parent's and child's names/addresses and assurance of instruction in the required subject areas.
Withdraw from prior school (if applicable)
Withdraw the child from any current school.
2.During the year
Teach the required subjects
Provide instruction in the required subject areas (language arts, math, science, history, government, social studies, health, PE, and fine arts). Keeping your own records is recommended.
3.End of year
No assessment required
As of the 2023 law change (ORC 3321.042 / HB33), no academic assessment report or evaluation is submitted. Simply renew the notification the following year.
