Most Alabama families homeschool by enrolling their child in a church school (a religious nonpublic school), which handles compliance; a private-tutor option also exists but requires a state-certified teacher.

What the Alabama process looks like
1.Establish the program
Enroll in a church school
Enroll the child in a qualifying church school (often a homeschool cover/umbrella). The church school files the required enrollment/attendance notice with the local superintendent; you do not file directly with the state.
Withdraw from prior school (if applicable)
Formally withdraw the child from any current public or private school so the church school enrollment is recorded.
2.During the year
Keep attendance records
Maintain the attendance and academic records your church school requires; the church school reports enrollment to the district.
3.End of year
Confirm records with the church school
There is no state test or evaluation. Retain your records and confirm continued enrollment with the church school for the next year.
