1.Establish the program
No notice required
No notice of intent or registration is required. (Filing an optional declaration of enrollment with the local district is allowed but not required.) Withdraw the child from any current school.
2.During the year
Meet the 1,000-hour requirement
Provide at least 1,000 hours of instruction per school year, with at least 600 hours in core subjects (reading, math, social studies, language arts, science) and at least 400 of those 600 at the regular home-school location.
Keep the required records
For children under 16, maintain a plan book, diary, or daily log of subjects and activities, samples of the child's work, and a record of academic evaluations. Records are kept, not submitted.
