1.Establish the program
File notice of intent
Submit written notice to a Colorado school district at least 14 days before beginning home-based education, and annually thereafter.
Withdraw from prior school (if applicable)
Withdraw the child from any current school.
2.During the year
Meet instructional hours and subjects
Provide at least 172 days of instruction averaging four contact hours per day, covering constitution, reading, writing, speaking, math, history, civics, literature, and science.
Keep required records
Maintain attendance records, test/evaluation results, and immunization records.
3.End of year
Test or evaluate in required grades
In grades 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11, administer a nationally standardized test or have a qualified person evaluate the child; keep results and submit to the district or a state-accredited school on request.
